The Purpose of Dental Veneers
Could porcelain veneers finally give your smile the makeover it’s always needed?
There is a reason so many people are turning to our Henderson dentists Dr. Brad Wilbur and Dr. Emily Ishkanian for cosmetic dentistry. Dental veneers have become a popular way for many people to get that perfect smile without invasive or time-consuming treatments. When you think about dental veneers you may think about the Hollywood stars, but trust us—you don’t have to be rich or famous for veneers.
What is the purpose of dental veneers?
These wafer-thin shells often made from porcelain (but sometimes composite resin) are bonded to the front of your teeth to alter your smile’s appearance. Ever wanted to brighten your smile, lengthen your teeth or hide certain flaws? Then dental veneers can help. Some of the most common imperfections that can be masked by veneers include:
- Misshapen teeth
- Gaps between teeth
If you are dealing with any of these problems, or even if you are dealing with a different problem that is affecting the look of your smile, it’s time you talked to your cosmetic dentist in Henderson, NV. Veneers may be able to help.
What should I expect from my treatment?
Once you have come in for a consultation and we have determined that your smile could benefit from veneers, the next step is to prepare your teeth for your new restorations. Tooth preparation is minimal when it comes to getting traditional dental veneers in Henderson, NV. No more than ½ millimeter of enamel is typically removed from the front surface of your teeth to make room for your veneers. Because this preparation is so minor, it typically can be performed painlessly without even needing local anesthesia!
Impressions are then taken of your teeth and sent to a lab. The lab will then begin making your customized veneers. Veneers can take up to a week or more to be made, so you may need to wear temporary veneers.
Once your veneers are sent to us you will come back in for one last visit to have them placed. Using a dental bonding resin and a high-intensity light we can apply and harden the resin to permanently adhere your veneers to the front of your teeth and transform your smile.
